Cookie policy
How this site uses cookies, what you control, and how to change your mind. Last updated 17 August 2026.
Nothing is set until you say so
This site does not set any cookies in order to work. The only cookies it can set belong to Google Analytics, and they are used purely to count visits and see which pages lead to enquiries.
Those cookies are not set unless you allow them. Until you make a choice, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all — so there is nothing to opt out of retrospectively.
The cookies involved
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics 4 sets the following first-party cookies on shaina.org.uk:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another so visits can be counted. | 2 years |
| _ga_XXXXXXXXXX | Google Analytics | Holds the state of your current visit to this site. | 2 years |
We do not use advertising, retargeting or social media tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share analytics data.
Recording your decision
Your answer is stored in your browser's local storage under the key shaina.cookie-consent, along with the date you gave it. That is a browser preference rather than a cookie, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else — it exists so we do not ask you the same question on every page.
Clearing your browser data removes it, and the notice will appear again on your next visit.
Changing your mind
You can change your answer at any time — opens the same controls as the original notice. There is also a Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
If you turn analytics off after having allowed it, we stop the tag, signal the withdrawal to Google, and delete the analytics cookies already stored in your browser.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's own settings, and set your browser to send a Do Not Track signal. Blocking cookies at browser level will not stop this site working.
Why we ask rather than assume
Analytics cookies are not strictly necessary to deliver this site, so under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR they require your consent. Consent is the lawful basis, it is asked for before anything is set, and it can be withdrawn as easily as it was given.
Google Analytics processes data on our behalf. Google's own handling of that data is described in its privacy and terms.
